On Unreachable Stars
The problem with chasing an unreachable star is not that you might never reach it. The problem is that you actually might, for a brief moment, get close enough to feel its warmth, and to try to close your fingers so you may touch it...
The star will then inevitably slip away, and propel itself further and further until you can't see it any more. And you'll be left trotting after the star, first in exhilaration, then in disbelief, and finally in despair, realizing you are all alone, without a clue about where you are going...
The worst thing is, you don't know whether you should continue after the star, knowing that it might be further away than it ever was before, or give up, and wonder whether anything will ever feel like the unreachable star that you almost reached...
Anyway, that's just some silly stuff that's been running around my brain :-) I am actually all done with the semester, and some other deadlines, and finally able to relax, and enjoy life. I had chinese food for lunch today, and the fortune said "You thrive on adventure. Do something new." For various reasons, that gave me a pretty good chuckle.
In any case, I wonder what this summer will bring. I suppose whatever it is, I won't be doing much worse than the guy I passed this morning, who was standing on the sidewalk and screaming at his shadow.

Thoughts from a crazy shooting stars lover:
The funny thing about catching shooting or unreachable stars is that, as you very well know, sometimes when you catch one it quickly fizzles out and dies. Some shooting stars were meant not to be caught but to come into our lives briefly, turn our lives up side down, delight and titillate us, sometimes wake us from the dead slumber we walk through life in, and leave. Once in a blue moon these shooting stars come back to us, but this is truly rare. The key is to realize it is not up to you, it is up to the shooting star. Even though its parting can be very painful, that shooting star will never fizzle and die in your heart, it will always shine brightly in your heart and mind, it will always delight and titillate you, it will always remind you to live fully and never settle for anything less, it will always be beautiful.

Hi.
I was reading a blog earlier and the blogger was so unbelievably PC I wanted to bitch-slap her. She was all full of Oprah & Dr Phil -isms about attaining potential.
I guess I'm just angry because I came close to grasping my own 'star' and now that its gone I'm pissed off.
One of these days I'm going to invent a star that doesnt burn out.
I'm above that chasing-shit. My star will come to me. (*evil grin* muaahaha!)
:P
found my shooing star and will never let her go :)))))
Wow, I should post depressed entries more often, it seems that more people relate to them than to my usual peaches and roses attitude :-)
Damzelle, if you ever invent that star that never burns out, you let me know. Sounds like it might involve a lot of kerosene, I like that.
Buttercup and John-43 - I was with a star once, we reached each other against all odds (similar to your story in a lot of ways, actually), it was heaven for a long time and then it took a sharp turn towards hell and ended pretty badly. It inspires me that you two have found your happiness, although right now it also depresses me a tad bit, in an "OK, now I'm gonna be sick" sort of a way. You understand :-)
And "Crazy shooting stars lover"... He he, "as you very well know, sometimes when you catch one it quickly fizzles out and dies." Good one, it actually took me a while to figure out what exactly you meant. Very nice!
Well, yes, ideally you never quite get a firm grip on the star, and it keeps surprizing you, and you keep surprizing it, and the dance keeps going until you both fizzle out on your own accord... I would like that, some day.
But I do have to say that if the star fizzles out prematurely as a consequence of being caught, at least there's some closure :) It's a lot easier to let go of a dim star.
Well, thanks for all the comments, I am actually feeling a lot better now. I will listen to the Chinese fortune cookie, and "Try something new". Whatever that means ;-)
the star that you may be trying to reach could quite possibly be lost too...projecting itself on the path it thinks it should be taking, its predestined course of action and journey through space, but perhaps the star has been quite jossled and confused after being caught for a brief beautiful moment and now that very star spins uncontrollably and wildly through the dark abysss searching for its destination
Hey. Its been a while since I was here last, I wonder if you will ever find this comment I leave now.
I lit a few stars of my own (thanks for the kerosene tip it worked great!) and found a pirate who showed me how to stoke a fire properly, no half-assed fires going on in here!
It's weird; the turn of events and the end of love's big-bag theory.
In saying this I lost him recently, our star was not meant to shine forever. And yet the sadness of our parting makes me love the good bits a whole lot more.
